Doctoral candidate Tania Rubio has developed the binational Acoustic Ecology LAB Mexico-Germany and is funded by the Goethe Institute Mexico. The aim of the project is to develop environmental sound art, taking into account biological species, their ecosystems and the communities to which they belong. The project is divided into four phases with five main axes: training, research, production and dissemination of intersections between art and science in favour of the environment.

The lab takes place in a natural ecosystem in southern Mexico and will be carried out by a team consisting of Tania Rubio (composer and project leader), Christina Kubisch (composer and sound artist), Sabine Vogel (flutist and sound artist), Judith Egger (visual artist), Fernando Domínguez (clarinettist and performer), Gilberto Ramírez (music educator), Mauricio de la Puente and Marina Rivero (biologists).

The team will run a residency programme with workshops for children and young people to produce art with a focus on environmental awareness. The results will be presented in Mexico and Germany. Co-producers are Noox, Akademie der Künste, Archiv Frau und Musik, Crespo Foundation, Bioconciencia A.C. and Escuela Superior de Artes de Yucatán. (Source: Goethe Institute).
