The Institute of Drama offers comprehensive training in voice, language, physical expression and acting. A team of artists and educators working with a variety of methods teaches students the basics they need to realize their potential in an ensemble or as freelance actors. The joy of acting is just as important as working independently on projects. Students gain professional experience by being involved in numerous festivals and cultural events in Upper Austria.

KBA Drama

8 semesters / 240 ECTS / Bachelor of Arts (BA)

The Bachelor's programme in Drama focuses on learning basic acting, physical and linguistic skills, acquiring the technical means for scenic design, gaining practical experience with different theater concepts and acting styles, and further developing individual artistic abilities.

These include:

  • acting, physical and linguistic skills
  • improvisation and scenic design
  • theater theory, history and dramaturgy
  • Numerous collaborations with the Landestheater Linz (joint acting studio), the Schäxpir theater festival and the ORF Upper Austrian regional studio, as well as with the Theater Chemnitz (studio)

The number of available study places is low, which enables individual student support.

Curriculum

  • 1st/2nd semester: “Study entry phase”:
In the first two semesters, basic acting, physical and linguistic skills are to be acquired.
  • 3rd/4th semester: “Craftsmanship”:
The third and fourth semester serves to expand the repertoire of acting tools, to further develop and secure the means of expression through speech, and to learn movement techniques geared towards acting. These should be available as manageable material for scenic design.
  • 5th/6th semester: “Form and Fable”:
The 5th and 6th semester is about the extended application of the acquired technical means in practice. The learned technique serves as a means to tell a dramatic fable in its appropriate and adequate form.
  • 7th/8th semester: “Bachelor”:
The module group “Bachelor” serves as an introduction to the profession and as a scientific specialization (bachelor thesis).
