How does our understanding of music history and historiography change when digital methods and music-related Gender Studies intersect — in short, when sources meet AI? The Summer School “Gender – Knowledge – Mobility. Digital Perspectives in Musicology” invites advanced Master’s students, doctoral candidates, and early-career researchers to engage with current developments at the intersection of Historical Musicology, gender and mobility studies, network-oriented research, Digital Humanities, and Artificial Intelligence, combining discussion with hands-on practice.

Symposium-Festival of Artistic Research: ARTikulationen 2026, 6-8 October 2026, ‘Metaphors in Practice'
The University of Music and Performing Arts Graz, Centre for Artistic Research (CEAR), invites you to its this years symposion: Metaphors in Practice. Asking how the entanglement of musical and scholarly terminology shapes artistic research. To call a score a map, a sound a trace, or a performance a negotiation can change the behaviour of everyone involved — metaphor can become a practical instruction. The symposium considers metaphor not only as something to be analysed, but as a catalyst for creativity: something to be heard, experimented with, and tested for how it shapes the field. It features a keynote by Nina Sun Eidsheim(UCLA), “The ‘Matterphor’ of Musicking”, with presentations by Irena Müller-Brozović (Anton Bruckner Privatuniversität Linz), Basak Senova (University of Applied Arts Vienna), Dániel Péter Biró (Grieg Academy Bergen), Tiziano Manca (HSLU Lucerne / Orpheus Instituut Ghent), and Alexander Khalil (University College Cork). Two panels bring these questions into open discussion. Further guests join online as external advisors: Lucia D’Errico (Gustav Mahler Privatuniversität für Musik, Klagenfurt), Simone Mahrenholz (University of Manitoba), Sarah Nemtsov(Universität Mozarteum Salzburg), and Jennifer Torrence (Norwegian Academy of Music).

Die ÖAW vergibt Stipendien an Absolvent*innen eines Doktorats- oder PhD-Studiums in den Geistes-, Sozial- und Kulturwissenschaften, die eine wissenschaftliche Karriere anstreben, um den Übergang in die Post-Doc-Phase zu erleichtern. Insbesondere soll damit gefördert werden: die Fertigstellung von Publikationen aus der Dissertation und/oder die Ausarbeitung eines eigenen Forschungsprojekts zur Antragstellung bei nationalen oder internationalen Förderorganisationen.

Critical Musicologies: Zwischen Kanonizität, Lehre und künstlerischer Praxis
In diesem Symposium sollen Kanones nicht nur in Konzertprogrammen, sondern auch in musikalischen Studiengängen, insbesondere der Musikwissenschaft, kritisch hinterfragt und damit Kanon- und Lehrkritik praktiziert werden. Der DVSM vernetzt Studierende der Musikwissenschaft im DACH-Raum und möchte dieses Netzwerk nutzen, um kanonkritische Diskurse zu teilen und weiterzuentwickeln.

MishMash Centre for AI and Creativity – Vacant Artistic Research and Hybrid PhD and Postdoctor Positions
The primary objective of MishMash is to create, explore, and reflect on AI for, through, and in creative practices. MishMash researchers will investigate AI’s impact on creative processes, develop innovative CoCreative AI systems and educational strategies, and address AI’s ethical, cultural, legal, and societal implications in creative domains. 18 doctoral and 6 postdoctoral fellowships available in various MishMash partner institutions in Norway. All are fully funded for 3 (some 4) years.
