Call for contributions – 2026 International Forum on Artistic Research | 17th SAR Conference
Endangered conceptual worlds
This year’s International Forum on Artistic Research explores how artistic research engages with endangered conceptual worlds and minoritised languages. It considers precarious forms of knowledge as epistemic resources and practical potentials; cultural sedimentations shared between generations and across contexts that provide unique ways of making and being in the world.
The 2026 International Forum on Artistic Research will explore and discuss artistic research in all its diverse forms as well as its untapped potentials within the dense social, cultural, and political contexts in which it operates. It provides an extraordinary opportunity to rethink the relationship between cultural heritage and creativity, while thoroughly investigating the impact of colonial and extractivist legacies on contemporary artistic practice.
Zeit und Ort: 23–26 June 2026, University of Galway, Ireland
Deadline for submissions: 01.03.2026

Call for Papers: Philosophical Hermeneutics and Musical Interpretation
Interpreting music, whether historical or contemporary, is an eventful, existential act that invites multiple, often conflicting, meanings. Hermeneutics can be understood as a way of living with a listening attitude. It is poised to play a major role in music education institutions in the near future.
This dialogical openness, while enriching, also raises critical questions:
• How do we navigate the tension between interpretative, creative freedom (often called ‘intuition’) and the risk of relativism?
• What methodological tools can balance the performer’s imaginative flexibility with rigour to ensure meaningful and responsible musical interpretation?
• How can music semiotics contribute to a renewed music hermeneutics, despite their radically different origins?
