Language Requirements

German language certificate

Foreign-language applicants must prove that they have a sufficient proficiency in German language (with the exception of dance degree programmes where English is the language of instruction).

  • Language diploma for artistic bachelor's degrees (KBA) and artistic master's degrees (KMA): B1 (CEFR) - to be submitted at the latest before registering for the continuation of studies for the 3rd semester, otherwise you must submit an application for a semester of leave in good time.
  • Language diploma for pedagogical bachelor's degrees (PBA): B1 (CEFR) - to be submitted at initial enrollment, which begins on 10 September
  • Language diploma for Master's degree programs in education (PMA): B2 (GER) - to be submitted at initial enrollment, which begins on 10 September

Exception: For “Voice” (institute VOC), the relevant language certificate must be submitted at the time of the entrance examination in all cases!

The following are accepted as proof of German:

  • Austrian Language Diploma German (ÖSD)
  • Language certificate of the Austrian Integration Fund (ÖIF)
  • Goethe certificate
  • German language test for university admission (DSH)
  • German language diploma of the Conference of Ministers of Education (DSD)
  • telc language certificate
  • Positive completion of a language course at an Austrian university at the required level
  • Completion of 8 years of schooling at a German-speaking school
  • 4 years of German lessons at secondary level II and matriculation examination in German
  • Completion of the matriculation examination in German

Note: The documents required under 1-7 must not be older than two years at the time of submission. The documents required under 8-10 are valid for an unlimited period.

The original document must be submitted. The examination result must be clearly stated on the document. Language course certificates without a final exam will not be accepted under any circumstances.

English language certificate

The language of instruction for dance programmes is English. Foreign-language applicants must prove that they have a sufficient proficiency in English.

  • Language diploma for pedagogical Bachelor's degree Contemporary Dance (PBA): B1 (CEFR) – to be submitted upon initial enrolment which begins on 10 September.
  • Language diploma for artistic Master's degree Movement Research (KMA): B2 (CEFR) – to be submitted at the latest before registering for the continuation of studies for the 3rd semester, otherwise you must submit an application for a semester of leave in good time.
  • Language diploma for pedagogical Master's programme Dance Education (PMA): B2 (CEFR) – to be submitted upon initial enrolment which begins on 10 September

The following are accepted as proof of English proficiency:

  • Cambridge Certificate
  • IELTS Academic
  • LCCI (General English)
  • TELC (General English)
  • TOEFL
  • Successful completion of a language course at an Austrian university at the required level
  • Positive completion of a language course at an Austrian university at the required level
  • Completion of 8 years of schooling at an English-speaking school (proof of individual annual reports possible)
  • Degree with English as the language of instruction (confirmation from the university required)

Note: Language certificates according to 1-7 must not be older than two years at the time of submission. Certificates for school years and degrees are valid indefinitely.
