Renata Kambarova gave a lecture on 22/03/2024 at the National Library of France in Paris for the Genre Musique Musiciennes (GeMM) Seminars on ‘Women musicians in Eastern Europe in the 20th and 21st centuries: movement, mobilisation, exile’.
In her lecture ‘Musician between Belgium and Uzbekistan: Nola, Shashmaqom, Contemporary Art Music and Transcultural Identity’, she presented her creative journey as part of her dissertation, which took her between Shashmaqom (a rich Uzbek musical tradition) and Western contemporary art music, with a particular focus on the traditional Uzbek ornamental technique of Nola. Through the encounters, challenges and discoveries that marked her fieldwork, she explored the influences of these musical worlds on her artistic research and identity.
