On 24–25 October 2025, doctoral student Lara Stanic will organise the symposium "Performing Mobile Technologies" at Bern University of the Arts as part of her research project. The conference will focus on the artistic and aesthetic potential of smartphones in composition and sound art, featuring lectures, discussions and concerts.

A research project by Lara Stanic explores the potential of smartphones as performance tools in composition and sound art. The focus is on the technical possibilities and the artistic and aesthetic dimensions of smartphones in compositional practice. Based on this, the Institute of Interpretation and the Sound Arts programme at the HKB are inviting experts from the fields of composition, sound art, technological innovation, musicology and music education to a two-day symposium on the topic. The following questions will be discussed in lectures and work presentations as part of a concert: What possibilities does the smartphone offer for musical composition and sound art? How do artists use the technological potential of smartphones? How is this potential used to create dynamic, immersive and agile experiences? What new technical applications and platforms are being developed from artistic creation? What role do the mobility and ubiquity of communication technologies play in their use in sound art and composition? What is the significance of the telephone as a medium for communication, but also for music transmission? How is the smartphone used to promote creative processes in music education?
