The PEEK funding programme to support artistic research in Austria of the Austrian Science Fund FWF has approved funding for the research project”‘Embodying Expression, Gender, Charisma - Breaking Boundaries of Classical Instrumental Practices” ’by Barbara Lüneburg (FWF project number AR 749-G).

The research project, which is based at Anton Bruckner University, is one of 13 PEEK projects approved by the FWF this year. From August 2022, Professor Barbara Lüneburg (violin, composition and artistic research) and her team, Dr Kai Ginkel (sociology of practices) and Diamanda La Berge Dramm (violin and junior researcher) will be investigating how the bodies of instrumentalists contribute to expressivity, gender and charisma in performance with their research project. In various worklabs, the researchers are collaborating with artists and academics from the fields of dance, theatre, gender studies and performance. In addition to exploring embodiment, the team will develop art and representation formats that question norms and values in Western classical concert practice.
