Digital Library

The Digital Library provides access to various electronic resources licensed by the ABU Library, as well as to other freely accessible / open access resources.

Take advantage of our wide range of e-journals, e-books, sheet music download portals and streaming content.

University members of the ABU can access the licenced e-resources both on and off campus. Logging in with a bruckneronline account is only required when accessing resources off campus. You will be prompted to log in after selecting the specific e-resource. Open-access e-resources do not require a login.

Please feel free to contact the library team with any questions you may have about using our Digital Library or if you experience any technical issues. Upon request, we are also happy to provide training on how to efficiently search for sheet music and literature.

Licensed e-resources

  • Art Song Transpositions (Free) Trial Access - Art Song Transpositions is a comprehensive sheet music database featuring art songs and Baroque arias in various keys. University members have access to the trial version, which includes a selection of titles (approx. 125).
  • BabelScores-contemporary music online BabelScores is a digital platform with scores of contemporary compositions from the last 40 years (currently around 3,000 titles) and additional audio recordings.
  • Berliner Philharmoniker - Digital Concert Hall Personal registration must be done from within the campus of the Anton Bruckner Private University. After that, you will have external access to all the contents of the Digital Concert Hall.
  • Cambridge Companions to Music This collection contains English-language introductions to musicians and musical topics in full text.
  • Dance in Video Includes dance productions and documentaries by the most influential artists and dance companies of the 20th century. The selection covers ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary, experimental and improvisational dance, as well as the precursors of modern concert dance.
  • DBIS-Datenbank-Informationssystem Offers access to a wide range of scientific online databases from all subject areas. Among others, the RISM database (International Inventory of Musical Sources) can be accessed via DBIS.
  • EBSCO eBooks Academic Collection More than 260,000 e-books on a variety of subjects, including music and performing arts, education and social science.
  • EZB The Electronic Journal Library is a platform for the effective use and clear presentation of scientific full-text journals on the internet.
  • Grove (Oxford Music Online) The Grove Dictionary of Music and Musicians is the most important English-language music encyclopaedia.
  • Henle Library App Access to the Henle Urtext editions for use on mobile devices.

  • JSTOR E-journal collections with full-text access: Arts and Sciences 3, 8 and music collection
  • MGG online The digital edition of the music encyclopaedia Die Musik in Geschichte und Gegenwart (Music in the Past and Present) with over 19,000 articles.
  • Music Online: Classical Scores Library This sheet music database from Alexander Street Press offers you thousands of copyrighted editions to download and print, with a focus on new music from the 20th century.
  • NAXOS Music Library Klassik Audio streaming portal for classical music (approx. 1.4 million tracks from over 97,000 CDs)
  • Oxford Handbooks Online Music Access to all e-books since 2021. These handbooks were written by renowned scholars who each introduce a sub-discipline of the field of music.
  • RILM Abstracts of Music Literature with Full Text Full-text articles from over 200 musicological journals + approx. 1 million bibliographic records
  • University Press Scholarship Online By selecting ‘Book’ in the left menu bar, over 1,000 music-related books from Oxford Academic are displayed in full text. The books are in English. The collection is constantly being expanded and also includes all e-books from the ‘Oxford Handbooks Online Music’ series since 2021.

  • Artistic research A selection of links to open-access/free-to-read literature in the field of artistic research.
  • Bach digital  The Bach digital portal offers a digital library with complete scans of works from a database of handwritten sources of compositions by the Bach family. It also includes a work catalogue of the Bach family.
  • Bruckner-online bruckner-online.at is a comprehensive Anton Bruckner internet portal (web archive), which contains not only the electronic documentation of handwritten sources but also compositions, relevant persons and places. In addition, complete digital copies of all manuscripts, first editions and the old complete edition are provided.
  • Hackbrett Informationen: Offizielle Fach- und Verbandzeitschrift The Hackbrett Information (HBI) is published twice a year. In addition to interesting, dulcimer-specific focus topics, Hackbrett Informationen offers the opportunity to find out the latest news from the German-speaking dulcimer world (sheet music, CDs, etc.) and also provides reports on current seminars and much more.
  • Händel-Gesamtausgabe von Friedrich Chrysander To date, the most complete complete edition of Handel's works.
  • IDEM - Integrated Database for Early Music A database of manuscripts and printed books, focusing on the musical heritage of the Low Countries from the early Middle Ages until 1800.  
  • International Music Score Library Project (Petrucci Music Library) Virtual library of public-domain scores and sheet music collections.
  • Kulturelle Bildung Online A knowledge platform with numerous specialist articles on cultural education topics, artistic practices, theoretical foundations and research.
  • Musikland - Niedersachsen (Music Land – Lower Saxony): Download teaching materials on ‘Improvisation zu Gast im Klassenzimmer’ (Improvisation in the Classroom).
  • Musiconn A comprehensive research tool for searching for research literature and materials on musicology is available to you.
  • MusikTexteOnline The digital version of the journal MusikTexte (contemporary music), starting with the October 2024 issue.
  • Nikolaus Harnoncourt Zentrum Search the conductor's archive at Bruckner University online.
  • New Mozart Edition: Digitised Version Contains the musical text and critical reports of the New Mozart Edition.
  • Open Dissertations Database from EBSCO and BiblioLabs with more than 800,000 free electronic theses and dissertations (mainly in English). NOTE: in some cases, only the abstracts are accessible, not the full texts of the works.
  • Oesterreichisches Musiklexikon online (oeml) The fundamental reference work on music and musical life in Austria in all its facets.
  • plainsightSOUND Music research project that aims to rediscover colonial and postcolonial voices in British classical music.
  • Research Catalogue an international database for artistic research
  • RISM (Répertoire International des Sources Musicales) About 700,000 entries for research into musical sources (mainly historical handwritten sheet music written before 1800)

3rd – 28th August 2026: closed

31st August – 18th September 2026: 9.00 am–1.00 pm

From 21st September 2026, the usual opening hours will apply again.
