With a contribution on “Understanding Through the Body: Collecting Qualitative Embodied Data in Artistic Research – A Dance Case Study”, doctoral candidate Athina Androulidaki presented her doctoral project at the Hugarflug Annual Conference on Artistic Research, which took place from 9 to 11 September 2026 at the Iceland University of the Arts in Reykjavík.

How can embodied perception serve as a method for gaining new knowledge in artistic research? Androulidaki explored this question through a case study of the work of the British choreographer Russell Maliphant and his engagement with the traditional Greek dance repertoire. She also outlined how proprioceptive journaling, somatic awareness exercises, drawing-based documentation of movements, and sensory impressions can be used to collect data and material from active dance practice for research purposes.
