Process
The audition for the BA Contemporary Dance consists of two rounds. There are two options for the first round: An online audition or the live audition in Linz. The successful applicants of the first rounds are being invited to the second round in Linz.
- 1st round online audition: all information and tasks can be found here
- 2nd round live audition: will take place at the Bruckner University. At the end of the first round, selected applicants are being admitted to the second round in Linz.
- 2nd round live audition: will take place at the Bruckner University. Only applicants who have passed one of the first rounds will be admitted. For the second round a solo of 2-3 minutes has to be prepared.
Admission requirements
Requirements for this degree program are a significant talent for movement, very good previous knowledge and a high aptitude for contemporary dance as well as solid knowledge of ballet. An openness to diverse artistic approaches is expected.
Applicants are being selected for the beginning of the BA studies and enrolled into the first semester. Entering into a higher semester, due to previous studies is only possible in exceptional cases.
Please do understand that due to the high number of applicants we are not able to give feedback if the admission has not been completed positively.
In case of high significant talent, the commission reserves the right to make decisions regarding the allocation of study places based on the first round.
Important information for MA applicants
The MA Movement Research and MA Dance Pedagogy are currently being revised. For this reason, no applicants will be admitted to these MA programmes in winter semester 2026/27.
The admission of new MA students is planned for the winter semester 2027/28.
Academy for Contemporary Dance & Ballet (AZB)
Admission Requirements
- Dancers who are aiming for a professional career and have an intermediate to advanced level in the areas of contemporary dance and ballet technique.
- For dancers aged 14 and up.
- Successful completion of the entrance examination is a prerequisite for participation in the programme.
We are looking for versatile dancers with a good foundation in ballet and contemporary dance techniques, as well as an enthusiastic and open-minded approach to improvisation and creative thinking.
Auditions
The auditions of the Academy for Contemporary Dance and Ballet are held annually. Please register online in advance within the registration period.
About the Audition
- The audition will last approximately 3 hours in total.
- It consists of a ballet and contemporary dance class, followed by improvisational exercises.
- Applicants do not have to prepare a solo.
- Detailed information about the time of the audition, the studio where it will take place, and what to bring on the day of the audition will be sent to all applicants via email a few days before the audition.
- Applicants will be informed by student services whether they will be accepted into the programme.
