The students and their artistic, pedagogical, and personal development are at the heart of the teaching and research activities at the Institute of Music Education. Its teaching staff creates the framework for this and provides a solid foundation for work in music schools, community projects, outreach formats, and much more. The institute understands pedagogical action as an artistic activity that is just as much about enjoying music as it is about assuming socio-political and social responsibility.
Teacher Education Programme
for Secondary Schools (AMP)
Ten universities from Upper Austria and Salzburg (Anton Bruckner University, Johannes Kepler University Linz, Catholic Private University Linz, University of Education Upper Austria, Private University of Education of the Diocese of Linz, Edith Stein University of Education, University of Education Salzburg, Paris Lodron University Salzburg, Mozarteum University Salzburg, University of Art and Design), which have joined together to form a regional association under the name ‘Cluster Mitte’, have been offering a joint teacher training programme for secondary education, i.e. teaching at NMS, polytechnic schools, special schools, AHS and BMHS, since the 2016/17 academic year.
The teacher training programme prepares students for a varied, demanding and socially important task: accompanying children on their learning and life journey and securing their opportunities in a constantly changing environment.
The Anton Bruckner University offers a teacher training programme in music in close cooperation with the two teacher training colleges in Linz. This programme, in combination with a second subject, qualifies graduates to teach music in secondary schools (grades 5-13, no instrumental instruction). The teacher training programme in instrumental music is offered at the Mozarteum in Salzburg.
